Week 4: Let's Play

Week 4 of the Scrappin Moms' Idol Season 3 is all about playing. The requirements for this round is playing with paper & embellishments to change or modify the original look. For my base paper, I first sprayed glimmer mist on it then stamped a script stamp all over. For my embellishment, I first played with the wooden flower embellishment by again spraying glimmer mist then stamped on it using a flourish stamp. I then applied stickles on the outline. I also played with a swirl chipboard by "wrapping" it with copper wire with beads. Color requirements were yellow, orange or teal, and pictures should be about play also.

Here's the layout:

Some details:

I also did a little embossing...

You can see the other fabulous entries here.

I made it to round 5 but wish me luck, its all about mini albums & well, I'm scared of minis.

Week 3: Space it Out

This is my entry for week 3 of the Scrappin Mom's Idol Season 3. The theme for this week's challenge is everyday moments and the requirement for the layout is to utilize white space BUT use 8 photos. How challenging is that?! I decided to include pics of things that I need everyday to keep me going: my car, fone, computer, stethoscope, friends, and of course my biggest priorities in life: my hubby & kids.

Title: Right Now (JUL 09)
Hidden Journaling: Through time, things change but at this point, these are the people and things that keep me going everyday: My loving husband and 2 darling daughters who give me so much inspiration; friends who are always there for me; my reliable Toyota Innova that allows me to drive my girls to and from school and for me to get to different places so that I can do everything that I need to do; my Sony Ericsson fone that keeps me connected; my laptop that keeps me updated with the world; and lastly, my stethoscope that I can’t part with for now.
Materials Used: Basic Grey Marrakech (Madagascar mint); Scenic Route Ashville scrap strip 3; Doodlebug paper frills; Hambly screen prints (ATC patchwork); Bo Bunny splendor cut-out; 7Gypsies Zanzibar clip; Making Memories just chillin badge brads; Prima iron orchid epoxy sticker; Chatter box pompom ribbon; American Crafts Thickers (platforms); Making Memories tiny alphas; Autumn Leaves buttons; All about scrapbooking bling; others: ricrac, DMC thread.

Some details:

On a side note, it took me such a long time to finish this layout. It was actually 3 days in the making. Things got so busy that I wasn't able to finish it until the night before the deadline. I was trying to take the best pic of the layout on a stormy morning 2 hrs before the cut-off. And, finally when I was ready to email my entry, our internet connection got cut-off. Luckily, the problem was solved by turning off and turning the modem back on. You can see the other entries here!

I made it to Week 4 which is even more challenging. Wish me luck!

Colorful Summer

Summer has ended in this part of the world, the weather is crazy, and it has been raining non-stop since yesterday. Perfect weather for scrapping don't you think? Here's the ScrapMuse July kit to cheer you up. It is bursting with color and just perfect for scrapping those summer pics.

Here are the layouts I made with the kit:

Title & Journaling: My world is so much brighter with the two of you.
I cut-out the picture again, this is starting to be a favorite technique. I love the way the picture becomes "part" of the layout. I also stamped using corrugated board and used it as a background for my title.

A closer look:

Title: Being a girl
I used the ribbon on Julia's headband as inspiration so I placed a big bow on the layout. I used the thought bubbles for my journaling which is a list of why she likes being a girl: ballet, dressing up, swimming, long hair, girl friends, and scrap galore with mommy! LOL!

We were asked to make a nature-inspired layout with no people in it. I used pictures of flowers from my mom's garden.
Title: in bloom
Journaling: For as long as I can remember, our garden has been full of flowering plants that my mom likes to take care of: African violets, anthuriums, orchids, euphorbia, etc. Thanks for keeping our surroundings beautiful, Mom.

That's a close-up of the Heidi Swapp invisibles, it is made thick chipboard with a glossy top coat. The design resists ink, paint, etc and other coloring mediums so it shows through. I used a paint dabber for this one then wiped off the excess paint.

Title: I am big now
Journaling: On a typical day. I said: you are so big now, and you said: big na ako, pwede na ako mag laptop (I am big now, I can now use the laptop). It is quite surprising that at this time and age, that is your gauge of growth.

Title: Scrap Nyt
Journaling: The party started at 5 pm and bedtime was between 3 to 3.30 am. In between eating & chatting, we scrapped the night away.

The kit this month also contains a 6x6 American Crafts album. The cover can be altered any way you want. I first painted it with cream-colored paint, then stamped on the upper portion. I then placed a transparency. I will be using this for Ally's school portraits & ID pictures. Here's the album I'm talking about:

The July ScrapMuse newsletter is already out! You can view the different layouts by the design team you can catch a lot of tips & techniques. I am also the featured member for the month. You can read the newsletter here!

Week 2: Reduce-ReUse-Recycle

This is my entry for week 2 of Scrappin Moms Idol Season 3. The theme for this week's challenge is the Reduce: which means just using 1 cardstock and 1 patterned paper, ReUse: use an item more than once, I used a chipboard as a mask and then used it also as an embellishment. I also used corrugated board as a stamp and then used it for layering. Last requirement is to Recycle: re-purpose a scrapbooking material on the layout. I used the transparency cover of the Making Memories noteworthy journaling notebook. The little birdie on the right side is also part of a packaging from Prima. Here's my layout:

Journaling: You really know how to ham it up for the camera! (Feb 2009)

Some close-ups:

You can find the other uber-amazing entries here! I'm still working on my entry for week 3...yikes!

By the way, that little girl on the layout is turning 3 tomorrow! Happy birthday Ally! We love you so much!

So Busy!

It has been a busy week, my scrap table is messy and I want to organize my stuff. I have some things that are missing and I'm not sure where I placed them...LOL! Oh well, a messy table means I've been busy creating layouts, so here are a few I can share.

Title: Adorable
Journaling: Adorable means extremely charming... and that's what you are. I love you Ally!Did this for Prima's June Build a Page. I really enjoyed doing this layout. I first sprayed black currant glimmer mist on the paper to create a distressed look. All the materials used are made by Prima except for the AC Thickers.

a closer look of the uber lovely prima flowers..

This is my last minute entry for Scrappin Kids sketch challenge last June. Used Rouge de Garance, Glitz, and KI memories pps.

Title: Luv to Swim
Journaling: You've been wanting to learn how to swim and wouldn't let this chance pass this summer. (Julia, 6 1/2 yrs old, May 2009, Baker Hall Swimming Pool)

This is my entry for Week 1 of Scrappin Moms Idol 3. I had so much fun doing this layout! Requirements for this round are paper piecing and 3 photos. I used so many manufacturers for this one: Basic Grey, October Afternoon, Jenni Bowlin, Scenic Route, Imaginisce, etc. Check out the
Scrappin Moms gallery for superb layouts!

Title: My Sunshine
Journaling: Dear Julia & Ally, you are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray. XOXO. Mom
A closer look of my paper piecing...

Incidentally, I made it to round 2, the requirements for Week 2 are quite challenging. Hmmm, think, think, think!
